Here is the extracted text: **Summary** The report documents three heritage sites in Tuross Head, New South Wales: the Kyla Park Farm Site, which dates back to the 1860s and was once the residence of John Hawdon, a prominent landholder; the Eva Mylott Memorial, which commemorates the life and achievements of a local opera singer; and the Former Kyala Park Farm site, which is associated with the development of the dairy industry in the region. These sites have regional historic significance for their association with early settlers and the development of the dairy cooperative. The report notes that while some remains of the original "Kyla Park" farm still exist, including a laundry and tankstand, the majority of the site has been cleared. The Eva Mylott Memorial is a simple plaque in a park, but it commemorates an important figure in local history. Overall, these sites provide valuable insights into the early history of Tuross Head and its development as a rural community. **Full Text** EUROBODALLA SHIRE COUNCIL Heritage Inventory 1997 FORMER KYLA PARK FARM SITE - TUROSS HEAD PRESENT NAME Kyla Park Farm Site PREVIOUS / OTHER NAMES LOCATION 601 Hector McWilliam Drive Tuross Head NSW 2537 LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA EUROBODALLA SHIRE PROPERTY DETAILS a REAL PROPERTY DESCRIPTION Lot 8 DP 259656 b SITE AREA 2.098 hectares c EXISTING ZONING 1(c) - Rural PRESENT OWNER NAME / S and A R Hand TYPE Private ADDRESS RMB 611 Hector McWilliam Drive Tuross Head NSW 2537 CATEGORY Area SUB CATEGORY Site DATE OF CONSTRUCTION c1860s BUILDER Unknown ARCHITECT I DESIGNER Unknown PHOTOGRAPH Prepared by The EJE Group REFERENCE No TUROIR007 DATE INSPECTED 6 February 1997 SITE SKETCH PLAN C2~ I t;c'.) Site of house only marked by Cabbage Tree Palms. HISTORICAL NOTES John Hawdon (1802-1881) born in Durham, England arrived in the Eurobodalla Shire in 1829 being one of the first settlers in the district. He established "Kiora", "Beefsha" and additional areas of land, prior to retiring to "Kyla Park" in the 1860s. The original house was built at the time, but is now demolished. However, two Cabbage Tree Palms mark the approximate location of the former residence. Remains of the Hawdon estate at "Kyla Park" consist of a laundry with stone oven and a tankstand, the original water supply. The old barn and woolshed have been renovated. John Hawdon's sons Ernest and William were also prominent members of the district. Ernest established a cheese factory at "Kyla Park" in the 1880s and also bred cattle. He imported a well-bred Ayrshire bull in 1884. The early 1890s saw the development of the dairy cooperative at "Kyla" between farmers and the manufacturers of their products. Although it lacks remains of the original "Kyla Park" farm, the site has regional scenic significance for its potential to contribute to an understanding of the extent and layout of John Hawdon's land holdings and the development of the dairy industry from the late 19th century.
