| Description: | The Parramatta Historical Archaeological Landscape Management Study (PHALMS) identifies the site as having potential to contain historical archaeological remains of State significance (AMU No 3086). PHALMS recommended management options for the site that include a detailed archaeological and development impact assessment to be prepared prior to any development at the site. An archaeological assessment was undertaken by AHMS in April 2011 (AHMS Parramatta Police Station, Parramatta, NSW. Historical Archaeological Impact Assessment and Research Design. April 2011) and concluded that: • There has been over 200 years of continuous historical occupation of the site; • That activities documented for this place had the potential to leave physical remains, or modifications to the landscape; • That portions of this evidence are relevant to State Historical Themes; • That the place has previously been assessed as having State significant heritage values for its archaeological research potential and that the 2011 assessment concurred with and augmented the detail of the previous assessment; • That site formation processes associated with the construction of the current Police Station and car park in 1971 have had impacts on the potential archaeological resource at the site. These impacts may vary from minor trimming of deposits, to removal of up to 500mm of the land surface that existed at the site before 1971; • That there is the potential for the survival of relics assessed as being of State significance in a number of locations on the site. |
