Title: | Swan Street Cooks Hill Newcastle Reconstruction. Historical archaeological assessment / Umwelt (Australia) Pty Ltd |
metadata.dc.contributor.corpauthor: | Umwelt (Australia) Pty Ltd |
Description: | The proposed reconstruction works would involve the full boundary to boundary reconstruction of the Swan Street road reserve and footpath, including piped drainage, road pavement, footpath paving and fig tree removal. In general, the depths of excavation required for pavement and footpath reconstruction are understood to be approximately 500 millimetres. Deeper excavation to depths of between 1.5 and 2.5 metres would also be required for the installation of stormwater drains and pits (Appendix 1). In March 2017 Umwelt was engaged by ADW Johnson on behalf of Council to undertake both an Aboriginal and historical (non-Aboriginal) archaeological assessment. The assessment found that there is potential for physical evidence relating to the A.A. Co to be exposed by the proposed works across the Project area. It was found that these remains may include both works and relics as defined under the Heritage Act. The archaeological assessment recommended that that an excavation permit for archaeological monitoring, recording and excavation (as/if required) be applied for under Section 140 of the Heritage Act. |
